No teaching experience is required but you will join the summer camp in order to learn how to teach English to Chinese students(program fee for TESL summer/winter camp is waived). See TESL Camp for details. We encourage the love of teaching and learning about other cultures, the ability to adapt and an understanding of new environments and multi-cultural working situations.
No
Chinese language ability required (in fact, many Chinese schools
prefer non-Chinese speakers in order to challenge students.)
Flexibility and a sense of adventure are prime requirements for participants. It is essential to have a realistic understanding that even the best-laid plans can become somewhat fluid in China. Demanding too much precision in your plans is to invite disappointment. Participants will need to adapt to local circumstances and conditions. The placements are for English language teachers. To be considered for half year or a full year placement, applicants must
be a native English speaker
with love of teaching. You do not need to know any Chinese or have taught previously. You must be comfortable speaking in front of groups, be enthusiastic about teaching, and have strong organizational skill. You must take your 'ambassadorial role' seriously, as you will be highly regarded in your local community and will be seen as a Center’s representative. Couples are eligible for joint placement. Most host institutions even encourage the accompaniment of family members, who may share your accommodation at no extra cost.
Note: Couples are eligible for joint placement. |
