Teach in China

Outline

The following outline provides a general overview of what your experience will be like. The details may change, but if you have an open mind and are adaptable to changing situations, you are sure to have an enjoyable and educational experience.


 A full day training in u.s. and weeks Practical Teaching and Training  at TESL camp in China will provide important cultural and practical information to help you adjust to life in China, along with teaching techniques. The TESL camp will provide essential skills and practice for teaching English as a Foreign Language,

specifically geared to the Chinese context.

International travel to China and travel to host institution will be arranged by Center. You willbe escorted to your school by a representative of your host institution at the airport or the train station.

Teaching duties will be around 20 sessions per week. During the rest of your time, you may be asked to organize informal activities, socialize with other faculty and students, and maybe even host an English language club. Support Services in China will be provided by your host institution's Foreign Affairs Bureau and by the staff in Center office in China. Though you must be able to function independently, you will have access to English speaking assistance at your institution should the need arise. Staff will ensure that your arrival in China goes smoothly and assist you during your stay. Once you are settled at your school, Center staff will be available by telephone and correspondence to assist you with any teaching, cultural and administrative issues you may have. Center will also be there in an emergency should you need them.

The Academic Calendar for most schools begins around September 1 and runs into early July of the following year. There is about a four week mid-winter vacation, which falls somewhere between the middle of January and February 20th, depending on the lunar calendar. Participants will be free to use this time to travel.

You will need to be flexible, patient, with a sense of humor and a keen curiosity. The program is about teaching, but it is also very much a "learning adventure".

 

Salary and Benefits:

Your salary will be paid monthly in Chinese currency and will be at least 4000RMB(with Bachelor degree) the upper bracket for professional wages in China. China is a developing country, and very inexpensive by western standards, so your income and free housing should offset all of your living expenses for the year. Free housing is provided to all participants by their host institution. Your accommodation will be usually on campus. Most are either furnished one-bedroom apartment or two-bed room apartment. All have air conditioning. The quality of the facilities can vary from school to school.
